Guest post from our partners at LOFT.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought the entire aviation industry to an unprecedented and prolonged standstill. While the airlines are still struggling, general aviation seems to be making a much more rapid recovery.
That recovery, however, is not without challenge. While our industry is on the mend, COVID-19 is still very prevalent in our day to day lives and that prevalence forces us to rethink how we accomplish our day to day tasks. We try to narrow down our focus to tasks that are absolutely mission-critical.
Every year as pilots one of those mission-critical tasks is training. Like everything else, the COVID era has created a few things to consider when scheduling your next training event:
AVAILABILITY OF TRAINING COURSES
As a result of thousands of pilots postponing their training during the height of the lockdown, we are starting to see a bottleneck in the training calendar. We recommend reaching out to your training provider and getting on the schedule earlier than usual. We’ve seen delays as long as several months in some instances already, and this issue will likely compound over the rest of the year.
COVID PREVENTION IN THE TRAINING CENTER
As 142 facilities there are a few new protocols we’ve had to adapt; namely smaller class sizes, full sanitization of simulators and classrooms with appropriate anti-viral products, and following CDC best practices when it comes to personal protection.
AVAILABILITY OF LOCAL ACCOMMODATION
With so many businesses still being closed across the country, we’ve had to develop relationships with hotels, restaurants, and local rental car agencies to make sure our clients have everything they need while they’re in town.
SELECTING THE RIGHT TRAINING PARTNER
In a time where new information comes out every day, it’s important to find a training partner that is nimble enough to quickly adapt and meet the needs of your mission on that given day.
Keeping these things in mind over the coming months will ensure a smooth training process and help keep everyone flying.
